‘Where the Mountain Meets the Moon’ just enchanted me. It was beautifully crafted and should be on everyone’s shelf.
This book was just such a great read. It had adventure and mystery, sad bits and happy bits and just really got you hopeful for the main character Minli.
This book is all about a young girl called Minli searching to find fortune for her home. Living in a small shabby shack like house and working all day in the fields, that is not so easy.
At night when every one is calmed and they are eating their small amount of rice, she listens to her father tell tales of the Jade Dragon and the Old Man of the Moon ( who knows the answer to everything) and she wishes and hopes and dreams that she will one day meet him so she can ask him for good fortune.
One evening, as she is at home preparing the rice for when her parents get home, she packs a few things and escapes the poor village without being seen. So, she ventures of to find the Old Man of the Moon and make all her wishes and desires come true. On the way she meets a few handy friends, such as a talking dragon who cant fly a powerful king and a speaking goldfish! All the will her parents have left the village to go after their little girl… but will they ever find her?
A really awesome read!! And then there is this incredible book trailer!!!
‘Its 1864 and Poppy lives at Bird Creek Mission near Echuca. Poppy hates the Mission, especially now that her brother, Gus, has run away to pan for gold. What if Poppy escaped, too? Would she survive alone in the bush? And would she ever find Gus, whom she loves more than anything in the world?
This was a great book!!!!
I mean I just loved it! It was a story of love and hope and I think it was really cool that she had the courage to go out, on her own, and travel far and wide just to get to her brother.
When she makes the escape, she comes across many people but luckily her disguise keeps her safe.
During her escape to find her brother, she comes across many emotion filled events and is taught how to live on the run.
I would definitely recommend this book to any of my friends who were looking for a short but emotion filled read. So if you haven’t read this book, I would recommend picking it up now and just enjoying the sweetness of young Poppy.
Is it a rare and special gift or is it the worst thing that could happen to a boy?
I think I wet myself laughing, several times while reading this book. That, coming from me, is a huge compliment. When I started reading this for the second time, I was sure it was just so magnificent, it needed a review.
I loved this book for lots of reasons.
a) It was about itchy nipples.
b) The sense of comedy it had.
c) And last but not least, it was by Morris Gleitzman.
This book is about a boy named Thomas, aged about 11 who gets itchy nipples. Right, first thing, I know it sounds gross but honestly DO NOT put down this book down now…. I ORDER YOU – DO NOT TO PUT THE BOOK DOWN NOW!
His sister, mum and dad have no clue what’s going on. He has no clue what’s going on. So when his newly made friends find out the scoop about his itchy nipples, of course he’s eager to know. Holly and Kevin get the scoop on everything about itchy nipples. Some good, some bad.
I am lucky enough to have a guest reviewer here with me today. Tanaya is a student at my mum’s school and she has written a review for Sally Rippin’s new book Angel Creek. Its a great book!!! And you should all go out and buy a copy as soon as possible! (Pssst..get it from the Little BookRoom, the BEST book store in the world!!!)
Without further ado, here is Tanaya’s review for ANGEL CREEK!
For such a small book, the story was amazing! I really enjoyed it. A book about angels was definitely something different. It was all put together well and it was a book that I would read over again.
I would probably recommend this book to 8 – 12 year olds because they would be able to understand it well. But then again, it would be a book for all ages!
You don’t have to be crazy about angels to read this book. I enjoyed it and I didn’t like angels much. When I showed the book to my Mum, she said it looked like a good book. A really good book.

I have waited so long to read this book. Ever since I found out Kayla, my older sister was reading it, I was constantly questioning what the book was about. Now, being older, I get to (finally) read the whole trilogy.
When I first picked up this book, I almost passed out at the amount of pages. But then as I was getting further in the book I was slowing my reading pace because I was almost done and now all three of them have not enough pages!
Katniss Everdeen is her families supplier. Ever since her father passed away in a horrible coal mine accident, she has been the one venturing out and collecting food. Katniss and her family live in District 12 where they scavenge for food and fight to survive. But the fighting suddenly becomes more serious. The Hunger Games.
When Katniss is thrown into the Hunger Games, her life becomes the most precious thing on earth. The Hunger Games is a cruel entertainment structure based on an Ancient Tradition. Is Katniss Everdeen strong enough to pull through and become a Victor? Or is she going to stay when death comes knocking on her door…
I really enjoyed this book. Like so much. It is just the most fabulous mix of emotion, horror and comedy. I would recommend this book to anyone who came asking to see if they should read it. I think that Suzanne Collins is an amazing writer and I wish someday I would have the luck to meet her. I have read the 2nd book, and that is just as fabulous as the first. I am currently reading the 3rd, but taking it very steady so I don’t have to end this amazing thrill of a trilogy.
Recommended to 12 + due to very scary and gory scenes.
Well I should probably start of with a GIGANTIC thank you to Kristi and to all of you who have taken time out of your day (or night) to stop by and say hello!
I am so happy to be warmly welcomed to the blogger-sphere! It has been more than a little overwhelming to see how welcoming and generous you have all been with your comments here and on Kristi’s blog.
Thank you all again and I look forward to (hopefully) writing book reviews that you guys enjoy reading.
Also a special thanks to Adele, cos without her awesome help, none of this would be happening. I truly feel, VERY lucky
I am VERY excited to post this interview!! The Story Siren, aka, Kristi, is probably the most famous Book Review Blogger on the interwebz and her blog is REALLY pretty!!!! I am truly thrilled that she kindly agreed to answer some questions for me!!! (HUGE thanks to Adele for her help on this one )
I had a personal blog that I started and had been updating for several months. My life is quite boring so most of the posts I had ended up being about the books I was reading or wanted to read. It was after I discovered a blog specifically dedicated to books, that I decided I should start my own.
2. Who is your favourite author?
This is a hard one. There are a lot of authors who are extremely talented writers. I guess if I had to pick just one, it would be J.K. Rowling. And not just because she is a fantastic writer, but because she is also a very inspirational person. I just remember reading The Deathly Hallows and thinking, “this lady is a genius.”
3. What was your favourite book when you were a child?
One of my favorites was The Wind in the Willows. My grandma used to read it to me all the time! I really need to reread it again as an adult. 4. If you were stuck on a desert island and could only take 3 books which books would you choose?
Oh, another hard one. Obviously The Dummies Guide to surviving on a deserted island. Good thing I watched all those episodes of Bear Grylls.
I’d also probably grab something by Meg Cabot… I’d need some humor in my life if I wanted to stay sane. And the complete works of Jane Austen because I’ve always wanted to read them, but just never find the time. I’m sure I’ll have nothing but time being on a deserted island and all.
5. Favourite Junior Fiction Series
Think I’m going to have to go with the Babysitters Club for this one. I think I’ve read every one of those books and perhaps even owned them all, and it seemed like there were millions. I just know every year I’d blow my savings at the Scholastic book fair buying those darn books.
A huge thank you to Kristi for taking the time to answer those questions here at Indi,’d Books!
OMG!!!! This was the first book in a long time that I cried at least 3 times!
This book is the most touching book I have read in a long time. It was so amazing! It took you through the poor peoples lives and what it’s like to be poor. It is a great read and opens your eyes to what its like if you look outside the box. When I was reading this book I was a bit cheeky and because I couldn’t put it down I would wait for mum and dad to turn on the TV and then I went under the covers and read. (Sorry mum and dad I only did it with this book )
Anyway, the book was about three boys – Raphael Gardo and Jun Jun- Better known as Rat. Their days are spent scavenging through trash or as they call it- Stuppa. They search through it all day everyday hoping to find some food or if there lucky – clothes. One day the police come down asking around if they’d found a small leather bag. Some people asked why and all the police said was that it was to help a big crime. Raphael and Gardo said they knew nothing. Or do they know something? The police have there suspicions and stay on their tracks. Raphael and Gardo ask Rat to help them when the police find out their hiding something and the go on the run.

Today, I am rapt to post my next blogger interview. This time with the wonderful Nomes from Inkcrush!
1. What inspired you to start a blog? I made some friends who had blogs about their writing and what they were reading and I thought it was pretty cool. Funnily enough, I was going to talk about my writing and my drawing and a bit about books. But then I discovered I was kinda shy about my writing and I’ve only put up a few bits of my artwork BUT it seems I can’t stop raving about YA books and especially the Aussie ones, which always seem to be my favourite, so it’s turned into a book blog. It’s been a lot of fun. I’m so glad you’ve been inspired to start a blog, Indi! I think you’re pretty amazing, actually! It’s very cool and inspirational
2. Do you find that blogging about books assists you as a teacher? I’m a primary school teacher, so not hugely. Although I do find I have a lot more recommendations and “intelligent” things to say to my high school teacher colleagues regarding YA lit And I have been passing on YA books I’ve read to staff members ~ who then recommend them to their teen students.
3. Who is your favourite author? I don’t have one favourite, but I do have a HUGE crush on Jaclyn Moriarty. Just thinking about her makes me feel good. She’s so whimsical and funny and feel-good and you can tell she just adores teens and thinks they’re awesome awesome people. Her books and characters make me feel nostalgic and happy. She’s my favourite comfort read. Sigh…
4. What was your favourite book when you were a child? I was addicted to Enid Blyton’s The famous Five books. I used to read them under my blankets with a torch through the night. I wanted to be a bit of a tomboy like George. And I especially wanted to discover a deserted island with a ruined castle and hidden gold!
5. If you were stuck on a desert island and could only take 3 books which books would you choose? This is such a cool question (and also impossibly tough!)
Hmm..
1) I’d love to take John Marsden’s Tomorrow series (I’m inventing an edition with 7 books in one). Ellie and Homer and the gang feel like home to me ~ and they were stranded in Hell and worse, so I think I could draw survival strength from them.
2) Melina Marchetta’s The Piper’s Son. I think I could re-read this over and over and find so much more depth and surprises in there. It’s a book that deserves re-reading It’d make me laugh and cry and the characters feel so real I’d feel not quite so alone.
3) My Bible I’d always have something to read ~ and there’s some very cool stories and characters in there.
Now I want to know which three books you’d take! (Ty, make Indi do this one ~ it’s hard!
6. Favourite Junior Fiction Series The Narnia Chronicles by C S Lewis. They’re just magical. And I feel nostalgic thinking about my dad reading them to me when I was a little girl. My brother and sister and I often reminisce about them Also, my kids so love them. We’ve read them as a family and my boys listen to them at night on their CD player. It’s a part of my family’s culture too now.
Thanks so much for having me and thinking up all these brilliant questions!
Thank YOU, so much Nomes, for your brilliant answers!
